Tyvek, a material from elsewhere
Tyvek is a non-woven membrane made of high-density polyethylene, obtained by flash spinning ultra-fine fibers. Initially intended for aerospace, medical protection, and architecture, this technical paper combines the delicacy of fabric with the strength of an industrial textile. Ultra-light, wrinkle-resistant, and recyclable, it has captivated designers and artists—from
Issey Miyake to Frank Gehry—for its unique translucent qualities. The Tense pendant lamp makes poetic use of it: an everyday material transformed by light into a floating sculpture.
The art of modular composition
The strength of the Tense collection lies in its ability to converse with itself. A single XL pendant becomes a visual event above a dining table. But combining the 3 sizes—S, M, and XL—at different heights opens up an entire room's staging: a constellation effect above a kitchen island, a poetic cascade in a stairwell, or a luminous punctuation in a double-height living room. Each piece becomes unique through your composition.
What you receive
1 Tense pendant lamp
Selected diameter 60, 80 or 100 cm, Tyvek membrane mounted on steel structure
Cable & ceiling rose
Braided black cable, ceiling rose, mounting kit, certificate of authenticity for unique piece
Bulb tip. To reveal the subtle patterns of Tyvek, choose a 2700K warm white LED bulb, globe or clear Edison shape. The membrane acts as a natural diffuser: 400 to 600 lumens are sufficient to illuminate the room without saturating the light. Avoid very hot filament bulbs directly against the membrane (prefer LED or low-temperature bulbs).
Tense, Saturne or Arborescent Chandelier? The Tense pendant lamp embodies a contemporary minimalist approach with its high-tech Tyvek membrane. The Saturne Lumineux plays on natural rattan and bamboo craftsmanship. The Arborescent Chandelier, meanwhile, opts for a contemporary metal and blown glass design. Three distinct styles for three room atmospheres.
What exactly is Tyvek?
Tyvek is a non-woven material made of high-density polyethylene, manufactured from ultrafine fibers through an industrial flash-spinning process. It combines the fineness of paper, the strength of a textile, and the durability of a plastic material. Ultra-light, tear-resistant, water-repellent, and recyclable, it is used in architecture, aerospace, high-fashion textiles, and now in lighting design for its exceptional translucent qualities.
How to combine the 3 diameters of the Tense collection?
The strength of the Tense collection lies in its modularity. You can install the 60, 80, and 100 cm at different heights to create a constellation effect above a table, a cascade in a stairwell, or an island arrangement in a large living room. The trick: vary the cable heights (for example, 80 cm, 110 cm, and 140 cm) to give rhythm to the composition. Allow about 30 to 50 cm of lateral spacing between each pendant for a clear overall visual.
Which bulb should I choose to showcase the Tyvek membrane?
A warm white LED bulb (2700 Kelvin) enhances the translucency of Tyvek and reveals the subtle patterns of its fibers. Opt for a clear globe or decorative Edison LED filament bulb, which creates an aesthetic light point visible through the membrane. An intensity of 400 to 600 lumens is amply sufficient: Tyvek plays its role as a diffuser. Avoid traditional halogen or incandescent bulbs that generate too much heat.
Why do delivery times vary?
Each Tense pendant lamp is a unique piece: the Tyvek membrane is individually selected, cut, and stretched by hand onto the steel structure for each order. This artisanal work requires several days per piece. During periods of high demand, delivery times may therefore be extended. You will always receive a precise estimate at the time of your order, and we make every effort to meet these commitments while maintaining manufacturing quality.
How do I maintain a Tyvek pendant lamp?
Tyvek should only be dry-cleaned: regular dusting with a duster or a soft dry cloth is sufficient. Absolutely avoid water, cleaning sprays, solvents, or any chemical products that would permanently mark the membrane. The lacquered steel structure can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth if necessary, avoiding any contact with the Tyvek membrane itself.
Is the bulb supplied with the pendant lamp?
No, the bulb is not included. The standard E27 socket accepts most LED, decorative Edison, or globe bulbs on the market. This allows you to freely choose the color temperature and bulb shape that matches your lighting design. We recommend a 2700K LED in a clear globe or Edison shape to best reveal the Tyvek membrane.
Is Tyvek a durable and ecological material?
Yes, on both counts. Tyvek is designed to last: it resists tears, creases, moisture, and UV with remarkable dimensional stability. Environmentally, it is 100% recyclable in the Category 2 plastics (HDPE) stream — making it a much more sustainable choice than traditional paper or textiles. Production scraps are systematically reintegrated into the recycling circuit by the manufacturer.
